In this day and age, consumers expect businesses to have an online presence.
Whenever people hear about you and want to find out more about your business, they will search Google or even Facebook. They expect you to have a website or a Facebook page where they can learn more about what you offer.
If they can’t find anything, it’s unlikely they’ll move any further with your business. They may even doubt whether you’re for real.
In this video, filmed at the Super Charge Summit in London, Paul Dunstan outlines the basic essentials that you must have in your online presence.
HAVE YOU EVER GOOGLED YOURSELF?
What do you find when you Google yourself?
Do you find information about someone else with the same name? Or do you find information about some non-business club that you’re a member of in your local area?
When your customers and prospective customers want to know about you, and how your business can help them, they will search Google for your name. If they can’t instantly find information about your business, you may lose a potential buyer.
THE 3 MOST IMPORTANT PLATFORMS TO BE ON
There are 3 platforms that are a must for your online presence.
The first is Facebook. Many people will search Facebook instead of searching Google. You should create a Facebook page that acts as the shop window of your business. You can use this to broadcast the news about your business and accumulate likes over time.
If you’re concerned about blurring the lines between business and personal, don’t worry. Your Facebook business page is separate from your personal profile, and you can control the visibility of your personal posts so that only certain people see them.
Secondly, you need to be on Google+. If you are, Google will give preferential treatment to your websites and your YouTube videos when people search for you on Google.
Finally, you need your own blog or website. It doesn’t need to be sophisticated if you don’t want it to be. However, if anyone hears from you through another channel – such as email, Facebook or word of mouth – they will want somewhere to go to find out more about what you do.
