Twitter is an excellent way to find conversations that are happening in your market, join those conversations, build an audience and generate leads for your business.
If you don’t have a Twitter profile, set one up. Use your own name and brand yourself. Then, you just need a listening strategy to find the conversations to contribute to.

SEARCH AND JOIN CONVERSATIONS
The easiest way to find conversations on Twitter is to use the search function.
For example, if you search Twitter for “MOBE,” you will find all the people mentioning the word “MOBE” in their tweets. You’ll see what people are talking about the topic, what they are saying and how many replies and engagements each tweet gets.
Type in a topic that’s related to your audience or business and see what people are saying. If they’re asking questions, reply to them. If they’re complaining about something, you can help them.
When you directly engage with people in this way, they will start to notice you and you’ll start to build your audience.
USE HASHTAGS AND TRENDS
If you mention a widely searched for topic, such as “photography” or “marketing,” you can turn it into a hashtag. Hashtags are clickable, and they take you to the search results for that topic.
In the search results, you will see all the people talking about that particular topic. As long as you include the hashtag in your tweet, you will appear in the search results. This is another way you can get your tweets and your profile found.
Similar to hashtags are trending topics. These appear on the side of your Twitter window, and they are the conversations that hundreds of thousands of people are currently talking about. If you join these conversations, you’ll position yourself where the traffic is and you’ll get more followers.
By using hashtags and trends, you can slowly build up a following of people who share common interests.
SHARE OTHER PEOPLE’S CONTENT
Twitter is a great place to share other people’s content. You can retweet other people, or share a link to their videos or blogs.
People appreciate it when you share their content. At the very least, they will thank you. At most, they may follow you or share your content in return.
Understand that it’s about being giving, receiving and being genuinely social.
Some people will advise you to automate your Twitter account and autopost from Facebook. This won’t get you great results with Twitter. If you are authentic and human, you will get the best results with Twitter.
MONETIZE YOUR TWEETS
Try to tweet 3 times a day. It could be a question to get engagement from your followers, a status of what you’re currently doing, or just a retweet of someone else.
Remember that you can tweet links, images and videos. These get better response and engagement.
