You might think you have a united team that’s in full agreement with you about where you want to take your business.
But can you be so sure?
Often, your team is more unruly than you think. Your team members all have their own ideas about how to do things, and they might each be trying to pull your company in a different direction without you realizing it.
Roger Salam talks about how to overcome this problem in this video, filmed at the Titanium Mastermind in the Dominican Republic.
WHAT IS YOUR END STATE?
You are the leader of your business. You need to decide what your end state is going to be.
Imagine that you’re sitting here a year from now. What has to have happened over the course of the year in order for you to consider it a successful year?
Do you want your business to have doubled in size? Do you want to have launched a new product line? This is the end state that you’re after.
ARE YOUR TEAM MEMBERS ON THE SAME PAGE?
Now, here’s the interesting part. You’ve just given your answer to the question above. But how would each of your team members have answered the question?
Do you expect it would be the same answer as you, or a different one?
Put aside your ego as you think about this. You might like to think you have a united team that cares about your company mission and vision as much as you do. But the reality is, they are individuals with their own lives and priorities.
Roger Salam has consulted with billion dollar companies with a teams of about 10 or 12 C-level executives. He’ll get the executive team into a room and ask them each what they believe the company’s end state to be.
Sometimes, he’ll get 10 or 12 different answers!
The end states that the executives are each going after are very different. This is the biggest awakening for the company owner.
NOTHING IS ACCOMPLISHED WITHOUT A UNITED TEAM
When Roger uncovers this problem, he’ll not go to the next stage of his consulting program until he gets the team to all agree on the company’s end state.
You’re not going to accomplish the end state you decide for your company if your team members all have different agendas. In fact, if they all try to pull your company in their own preferred direction, you’re not going to get anywhere.
It’s your company, so it’s your responsibility to decide where you want to take it. No one else can come up with the answer for you. Decide on your end state, then ensure your team members are all on the same page with you.
