Why did I make millions … and Mike didn’t?
Back in 2009 while living in Perth, Australia, I was part of an affiliate program (not MOBE) for a company based out of the USA. This company had 3 main products priced at $1,755, $9,000, and $15,000.
I’d never seen anything like this business, and it intrigued me.
I ended up investing my entire life savings into it (and whatever I could borrow from friends and family). I didn’t think, “I’ll see how it goes, and if it doesn’t work out, then that’s OK because I’ll have a safety net.”
My mentality was “I’m going to make this work, no matter what it takes, or how long it takes.”
So, I started going to weekly meetings with other affiliates in this company. We’d originally met at a national seminar in Sydney, and all of us were brand-new.
Every week, we’d meet at the local Balmoral Pub, where we’d get lunch and have a few drinks. We were all very excited about the potential of our businesses, and how much money we were going to make. But as time passed, fewer people began to show up each week. Soon, it was down to just 3 or 4 of us.
And finally, it was just two of us–myself and a guy named Mike.
Everyone else had given up or “put the business on hold until later.”
After what ended up being our final meeting, Mike and I had some silly disagreement (I can’t even remember what it was about). Mike soon quit and I assumed I’d never see him again.
Well, six years later I got a bit of a shock.
Not only did I see him, but it was in the most unlikely of places–on a beach at night in Phuket, Thailand! It was at the welcome dinner for one my big international Titanium Masterminds, and Mike was attending as a guest of one my affiliates, also from Perth.
I asked him what he’d been been doing, and with a look of disappointment he told me after quitting the business he’d gone back to his regular job.
I’m not judging him for that, but … pay close attention …
We both started out in the exact same place with the same resources and opportunities.
Mike was a smart guy, desperately wanted to be successful, and in many ways was similar to me.
Fast forward 6 years and:
I run an international training company (MOBE) that’s generated over $100 million in sales, and Mike is back at his old job, working pay check to pay check.
We were both brand-new to business when we started, but we got vastly different results.
Because of MINDSET.
I had a Success Mindset and Mike didn’t.
If you’re new to business, you’re probably thinking the first things you need to learn to start generating revenue is how to effectively market, or how to create products, or how to sell.
Wrong. Those things are important, but there’s something else that must come first.
And that is how to THINK like a successful entrepreneur.
You must get your Mindset–your thoughts, daily habits, and thinking patterns–in check before you do anything else.
If you don’t, then all the tactics and strategies in the world won’t help you one bit.
The sad truth is that most small business owners never get their Mindset right (even though it’s relatively easy).
It’s one of the main reasons why 40% of small businesses fail in their first year, and 80% fail within 5 years.
On the other hand, if you learn how to think like a successful entrepreneur now, then everything else will fall into place.
You must go into business KNOWING you’re going to succeed, and have that knowledge permeate everything you do:

In business and in life, it’s usually not what you pay attention to that cuts your throat.
It’s what you ignore that kills your dreams.
It’s what you fail to pay attention to properly.
And mindset is so easily ignored.
Mindset is tricky.

Studies have proven that if you use a smaller plate, you’ll eat less.
But almost everyone who hears that says, “Oh that’s silly, it doesn’t work on me…I’m too smart for that!”
And that’s exactly why it works against them.
Because they THINK that it does NOT work.
So they ignore it and continue to eat more because using big plates.
Telling an entrepreneur that mindset is the most important foundation is the same way.
Almost all of them say, “No, I don’t need to change my mindset, I need more traffic and leads!”
Or, “I need better staff!”
Our natural tendency is to look for external factors in explaining and justifying where we are today. But in business (and many areas of life) it all starts from within.
If you want to be a high performance entrepreneur, you must take your mindset very seriously.
Only a handful of people are willing to do this, and that’s why only a handful succeed.
