No matter how little knowledge you have about how to run a business or how to invest, there’s one simple “tactic” that can give you an instant advantage over everyone else and you can start using today.
It’s simply being a pleasant person to be around.
When Sue Nelson started real estate investing, she didn’t have a clue what she was doing. Yet she managed to get a $125,000 offer for her very first property.
She credits being a happy and pleasant person as a tenet to her success. Hear more of her thoughts on this topic in this video, filmed at the Platinum Mastermind in Curacao.
PLEASANT PEOPLE ATTRACT GREAT DEALS
Here’s how Sue Nelson’s first real estate deal played out. She was talking with an experienced 88 year old real estate investor. Being someone who loves people and is truly interested in what they’re doing, she asked him some questions and found out that he owned a property.
She asked the man if she could buy it, even though it was not on the market.
His response was, “You know what? Sure. Let’s try it.”
Had Sue been grumpy and aloof, he probably would not have agreed to the deal. But when you’re happy, people want to work with you and be around you.
Although Sue recommends you get an attorney to draft a contract for you, she didn’t know to do that on her first deal. Instead, she stole a contract from a realtor and gave it to the man.
The man’s generosity only continued. He added some clauses to the contract that Sue assumed would be to protect himself. To her surprise, they were to benefit her! Then, he offered to introduce Sue to his friends who own properties and might be interested in selling.
Don’t expect that everyone you work with will be this generous. But also don’t expect anyone to show you any generosity at all if you don’t make yourself a pleasure to work with.
BE PLEASANTLY PERSISTENT
No matter how new you are, you can always build off of other people’s knowledge. If you want them to show you the generosity and share their knowledge with you, show them the courtesy and be someone they want to work with.
This 88 year old man sold Sue his property because he liked her. The best deals she’s done with banks have been because the banker has liked her. They like getting on the phone with her.
If you have the skill in building relationships, it will make up for your lack of knowledge. No matter how little knowledge you have, you can always be pleasantly persistent with those who do. They’ll be glad to share their knowledge and opportunities with you.
