As a new business owner, you have a lot of different hats to wear. When you have a bigger company, you’ll start to delegate some of those hats to someone else.
Whether you’re still in the early stages of your business or you’ve been doing it for a while, your number 1 hat is always sales and marketing.
As the CEO, you need to be the biggest ambassador of your brand. You need to be shameless about promotion and prioritize it above every other responsibility.
I explain more in this video.
THE MONEY IS IN THE MARKETING, NOT THE DOING
Dan Kennedy wisely pointed out that the money is in the sales and marketing of the thing, not the doing of the thing.
Most business owners think that the success of their business depends on their ability to produce the deliverable product or service.
For example, someone might be an expert at fixing cars, so they think they’re qualified to start a business that fixes cars. They think they’ll be able to easily dominate the market because they’re so good at what they do.
The reality is, if their competitors are not quite as good at fixing cars but better at sales and marketing, then their competitors will get the bigger market share.
As you scale your business, you’ll no longer have the time to handle all the product fulfillment yourself. However, your most important role as the CEO is to focus on marketing and sales.
BE A SHAMELESS PROMOTER
Jessica Alba is a former TV and film actress turned entrepreneur. In 2012, she started The Honest Company, which sells natural baby products with no chemicals. She’s now worth over $300 million.
Understandably, because of her show business background, she’s still always in the spotlight. Now, she uses every opportunity she gets to promote her brand. Her company is inseparable from her public image.
Like Jessica Alba, you should be a shameless promoter. Be the face of your brand and promote it whenever you get time in the spotlight.
