Charlie Tremendous Jones said, “You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.”
That means, if you want to grow into a better person 5 years from now, there are only two ways to do it. Read better books and meet the people who you aspire to be like.
Anyone can read books, but what if you want to form lasting connections with busy millionaires and billionaires who need you less than you need them?
In this video, filmed at the Titanium Mastermind in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Larry Benet shares the two questions that enabled him to put a self made billionaire on speed dial.
A CONNECTION WORTH $3.2 BILLION
One of Larry Benet’s mentors, Mark Victor Hansen, introduced him to Bill Bartmann. Larry knew that Bill Bartmann’s story read like a Hollywood movie. He grew a debt collection company to a valuation of $3.2 billion but filed for bankruptcy due to the actions of a rogue employee.
Larry knew that it would benefit him to gain proximity to Bill Bartmann and to be able to ask advice whenever he needed it.
The two questions Larry asked to form a lasting connection with Bill were, “What’s most important to you and how can I help?”
Because of those two questions, Bill put Larry on retainer as a consultant. Bill also agreed to speak at Larry’s mastermind for a $10,000 per hour fee, which was well worth it for Larry. Of course, a busy billionaire like Bill only agreed to this because Larry added value to him first.
THE POWER OF TWO QUESTIONS
Whenever Larry Benet seeks to form a new connection, he asks the same two questions. “What’s most important to you and how can I help?”
“How can I help?” is one of the most powerful phrases you can ever say to someone. It changes people’s state. At a time when they’re expecting you to pitch to them or ask for a favor, they’re delighted to find out that you’re willing to help them reach their own goals.
Everyone will give a different answer. David Fry was launching a magazine and looking for a free DVD to give away. So, Larry connected him with Bill Bartmann. He introduced Bill to Alex Mandossian and Ron LeGrand based on what they each needed too.
Larry did not previously know any of these people. He simply met them at events and expressed his interest in helping them reach their goals. Stick to these two questions and you too can be a master networker.
