Don’t make it your goal to build a team of 100 people just to be able to brag about it.
It’s better to have a lean, concentrated team than a bloated one. The size of your team should be dictated by the current revenue level of your business and the amount of work that needs to be done.
When MOBE was at the 7 figure level, we only had about 15 people on the team. I didn’t hire people for the sake of hiring people. I hired people based on what needed to be done.
In this video, I talk about the jobs that need to be done in a 7 figure company.
When you get thousands of customers, there will be too many to keep track of every one. Some will slip through the cracks. They may not get their product delivered as expected and they’ll get upset with you.
This will happen, because no company can be perfect. You’ll need someone to handle cases like that. Bring someone onto your team to handle customer satisfaction.
This is important. If you leave customer satisfaction unaddressed, your customers will vent their complaints publicly and it will start to affect the reputation of your company. If you take care of these things before they get out of hand, you can keep your reputation under control.
Entrepreneurs are usually good at starting things but not finishing things. That’s why it’s important that you have a project manager who can take over the projects you start and see them through to completion.
I spotted an opportunity to hire my first project manager when a lady who used to work with someone well known in the industry had a falling out with him.
I saw how good she was, and spent 2 months negotiating a deal with her. She’s been amazing.
SALES, CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND TECH
At the 7 figure level and beyond, you can’t be on the phone all day with your customers. You will want to hire a few sales reps and a sales manager that they can report to.
You will definitely need a handful of people to work in customer support. With both sales and customer support, let the size of your business dictate how many reps you hire. Don’t be tempted to build a big team for the sake of it. When MOBE was at the 7 figure level, we only had 3 people working in customer support.
Finally, you will need someone in tech. You can outsource this function of your business to the Philippines for $15–25 per hour. Depending on the amount of work available, it doesn’t need to be full time. It might be just 3 hours a week to start with, and you can scale this up as you need to.
