When you’re doing business with people – whether it’s a joint venture partner, a client or a vendor – you’re not just making transactions.
You’re also opening relationships. Many of these people will be your great friends for years to come, even outside of business.
In this video, filmed at the Diamond Mastermind in Jamaica, Marcin Marczak talks about the value of thinking of your business contacts as friends, and how to form these kinds of relationships through your business.
THE BENEFITS OF BUSINESS FRIENDSHIPS
Through his business, Marcin Marczak has met many great people and formed many friendships. He’s had barbecues and gone on holidays with people he met through his business. When he travels to different countries, he doesn’t have to pay for accommodation.
Don’t feel guilty making a sale, because you are building a relationship. You’re not taking money away from them, but adding value to them in the form of a new relationship.
If Marcin’s customers don’t buy, he gives them a gift instead. This shows them that he cares about them and thinks of them as more than a source of money to extract from. Sometimes, they even come back 6 months later and decide to buy after all.
MAKE A SALE AND MAKE A FRIEND
Here’s how to make a sale and form a new friendship in the process.
Marcin will ask his prospects three different questions:
1. Are they happy?
2. Are they getting paid enough?
3. Are they open to change?
Asking questions is crucial, not just because it gives you useful information that you can use to make the sale, but because it assures the customer that you care about them.
Remember, people don’t care how much you know, but they know how much you care.
You have two ears and one mouth. Ask questions and let them speak for as long as they need to as they give you their answers. When they open up to you, they’ll feel valued and you can build a real friendship on this.
