THE $100 BILL TRICK
Dave VanHoose’s fail-safe is to always carry a $100 bill in his pocket when doing a sales presentation. If he senses that he’s lost the audience’s attention, he pulls it out.
“Who wants to make more money? Who wants this $100 bill?”
Of course, members of the audience come rushing to the front. Dave will select one of them and ask that person, sincerely, “Are you ready to change your life? Are you committed to change your life?”
If the answer is yes, Dave will hand over the $100 bill. Then, he’ll continue with the presentation, having regained the audience’s attention.
But the most interesting effect is this: At the end of the presentation, after Dave has made his offer, the first person to sign up at the back table is always the one who got the $100 bill. Every time.
THE FREE BOOK TRICK
This trick doesn’t just work when giving away money. Dave has also done presentations in which he’s given away a free copy of Rhonda Byrne’s book, The Secret. Again, the recipient of the free book is always the first one at the back table to buy Dave’s product.
The lesson you should take away from this story is that giving things away makes you sales.
