Are you looking to find new customers, clients, suppliers, employees, joint venture partners or business mentors in your local area?
Then you should consider creating a community with Meetup. It can be a way to increase the reach of your business or to find a new connection who can help take your business to the next level.
Meetup is a popular website where people can join interest-based groups that meet up in person in their local area. Anyone can start a Meetup group and instantly have new members signing up.
In this video, filmed at the Platinum Mastermind in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, Daven Michaels gives his tips for creating a Meetup group.
WHAT TO CREATE A MEETUP GROUP AROUND
Meetup groups are based on an interest. One approach is you could create a group based on the industry that your business operates in. Then you can use the group as a device to bring new people into your audience and acquire new customers.
Or, you could aim the group at fellow entrepreneurs and create your own local mastermind. In this case, you’d be using your Meetup group to build your social capital and seek out valuable business connections and partnerships.
You can charge for your Meetup group or let people come along for free. You’ll get more attendees if you keep the group free, and you can always sell them something on the back end.
HOW TO MONETIZE YOUR MEETUP GROUP
There are a number of ways to monetize a Meetup group, other than charging people to attend.
On the page for your group, you can put your own ads on the side, and declare your own business to be a sponsor of the group.
Be careful not to give the impression that the whole group is an upsell to your business, because this is against Meetup’s guidelines and it makes your Meetup group less appealing to prospective members.
Instead, think of your group as a way to build your list. Meetup will let you send emails to all of your group members and you can sell them your products on the back end.
Head over here to create a Meetup group. The basic plan allows you up to 50 members for a monthly fee. Or, for a slightly higher fee, you can have unlimited members.
